Journées du patrimoine / Heritage Days 2009

Duck Lake 1910 1
The fifth edition of Journées du patrimoine / Heritage Days will be held on September 18th and 19th, 2009 at Duck Lake. The event will be organized in collaboration with the town of Duck Lake. The theme of this fifth edition of Journées du patrimoine / Heritage Days is that of ‘The Pioneers' Arrival' and the twenty sketches will be set in 1912. For more details about the event go to the Journées du patrimoine / Heritage Days website.
Through dynamic and interactive historical sketches, visitors will learn about local figures and they too will face the same hardships the pioneers experienced when establishing homesteads in Saskatchewan. They will also discover the creation ofACFC and the newspaperLe Patriote de l'Ouest.

Duck Lake's Front Street has interesting architecture and a rich history, which will influence the creation of the historical dramatizations and the different activities presented during the event.

Duck Lake 1910 2
Like previous editions, the first day, Friday, is reserved for fransaskois, French immersion, and English students. The second day is open to the general public.

The event will mostly be conducted in French and English. There will be some historical sketches entirely in English.

Since the first edition in 2005, Journées du patrimoine / Heritage Days attracts on average 800 visitors and is supported by over 120 enthusiastic volunteers.

Les Journées du patrimoine / Heritage Days is an annual event created in 2005 during Saskatchewan's Centennial. The event dramatizes historical facts from Fransaskois history and Saskatchewan history as seen through the eyes of the Fransaskois. We use re-enactments and demonstrations to show these facts and events.
